Woosage50 compatibility with the 64-bit version of Sage 50 Accounts V30

Woosage50 compatibility with the 64-bit version of Sage 50 Accounts V30

Versions of Sage 50 Accounts from V30 onwards will be available as a 64-bit version to improve the performance and compatibility with other 64-bit applications. Sage are continuing to provide a 32-bit version but new version will no longer have automatic updates.  Their long term plan is to move to a solely 64-bit version, but they have not stated timescales for the transition.

Woosage50 is currently only available as a 32-bit version and we have been reviewing the effort required to develop and support a 64-bit version alongside a 32-bit version, which we will need to do until version 30 becomes the oldest supported version.  This is a significant undertaking and we have decided to postpone the development of a 64-bit version until such time as V30 become the oldest supported version, subject to any change in Sage's strategy on 32-bit vs. 64-bit architecture. However, Woosage50 will continue to work with both the 32-bit & 64-bit versions by deploying a 32-bit version of the Sage SDO (see below).

The Sage data is unaffected by the application architecture and  Sage have stated than you can run 64-bit and 32-bit versions on the same Sage data (e.g. if one of your Sage installation is on a 32-bit PC), so this will not prevent you updating other devices to the 64-bit version if you wish to do so.  This Sage Article provides further information.

Installing the 32-bit Version of the Sage SDO

The current 32-bit version of Woosage will work with the Sage data, either on a separate device or one with a 64-bit version of Sage, even if other 3rd party applications use a 64-bit architecture.

The following installation procedure is for Woosage50 running on a device with...
  1. The 64-bit version of Sage installed
  2. No Sage installed (Sage is not required to run Woosage)
  3. The 32-bit version of Sage installed (if the SDO has not been installed with Sage)
You will need to download and install the Sage 50 Accounts SDO installer zip file from your Sage (see this Sage Article) Once you have downloaded the installer do the following.

Notes
Note these instructions are using the in-built Windows zip file extraction tool. If you are using a different tool then amend the steps accordingly.
  1. Extract the files by locating the downloaded file, right-clicking and selecting Extract All...
  2. Browse to a folder to extract the files to and click the Extract button
  3. Open the extracted folder and click double-click the x86 folder
  4. Double click the Sage50Accounts_SDO.msi installer file to start the installation
  5. Follow the steps in the setup wizard
Once the SDO is installed Woosage50Service can be installed (or restarted if previously installed)
